We teamed up with the team from Mrs Wordsmith to tackle Brighton Beach. This was our first time in Brighton, and we were excited to get started in the glorious beach weather.
11 volunteers came to give up their day to help us make this stretch of coastline a cleaner place for all. We began our day with a quick safety talk and getting kitted up, we then took to the beach as a team to collect as much as possible.
Luckily we had the sun shining as we cleaned up Brighton Beach, and with the weather on our side these volunteers got stuck in. Once we had cleared over the sands, we headed into the surrounding bushes, walkways, and paths to see what we could find.
We found all of the normal items we have come to expect on beach cleans. From plastic food packaging, to bottles, to abandoned fishing gear. However, our volunteers also found some more unusual items, retrieving them from hedges, digging them out of the sands, and dragging them across the beach.
Here are some of the unusual things we found:
- Bracelets
- Camping Chair
- Dolls
- Drain Pipes
- Paint Brush
After two hours, the volunteers collected an impressive 12 bags of litter that weighed in at a huge 29.33 kilos of litter.
We want to say a huge thank you to the team from Mrs Wordsmith for giving their time to help clean-up Brighton Beach! This clean brings our total for the year to a whopping 1,625.64 kilos of litter collected!
