Cam Woodfields Infant School has taken a significant step towards environmental sustainability by joining our ‘Waste Less’ initiative. This program aims to educate and empower young students to reduce plastic waste and promote eco-friendly practices.

We visited Cam Woodfields Infant School in Dursley to deliver assembly focused on ocean pollution and the detrimental effects of plastic on our environment. The morning highlighted how plastic waste reaches our oceans, the harm it causes to marine life, and easy practical steps students can take to reduce plastic waste.

As part of our visit, children also took part in a timeline workshop. This hands-on activity teaches students how long everyday household waste items, like plastic bottles, aluminium cans, and wet wipes take to break down when not properly recycled or disposed of.
Through this eye-opening timeline experience, students were able to better understand the lasting impact of littering and the importance of making environmentally responsible choices in their daily lives.

In the afternoon 60 students took up litter pickers and buckets to clear their school field of litter. After 45 minutes the students had collected up a couple kilos of food wrappers and other rubbish, making their school field much cleaner for everyone.

To further encourage sustainable habits, Life’s a Beach provided each of the students with a reusable water bottle. This initiative supports the core message of reduce, reuse, and refill, aligning with the charity’s mission to fight single-use plastic pollution.
A huge thank you to everyone at Cam Woodfields for the incredibly warm welcome and all the effort everyone put inl! For more information on the ‘Waste Less Initiative’ or to get involved, email hello@lifesabeach.org to find out more.
