We teamed up with British Gas and Centrica for two days of back-to-back beach cleans, starting in Falmouth. Day one saw 13 engineers and managers arrive to clean up this beautiful stretch of Cornish coastline.
The weather had been looking overcast but the sun came out just in time, heating things up to the mid-20s. Moving carefully over slippery rocks, tangles of seaweed, and large rockpools, volunteers travelled across the beach searching for litter washed ashore or left by people visiting the beach.
In our bags we collected food packaging, cigarette butts, a full pepper grinder, clothes, one shoe, and a pair of broken sunglasses. The majority of what we found, around 80%, was plastic but we managed to see lots of marine life within the rockpools.
After cleaning for almost two hours we stopped to enjoy a drink and an ice-cream on the beach from Castle Beach Café. A well deserved reward! Together we collected up 13 bags, weighing in at 11.59 kilos.
Thank you to the volunteers who gave their time as part of this two-day team-up. To organise a clean for your team, contact us at hello@lifesabeach.org to find out more.
