After almost a year since our original clean at Gloucester-Sharpness canal, the ProCook team are back!
Recruiting the help of our long-term charity partner ProCook, 14 volunteers travelled along this 8-mile round trip of Gloucester Sharpness canal. Being one of our longest cleans spanning 4 hours in total!
Armed with litter pickers and paddles, volunteers took to canoeing and paddle boarding down the canal to access hard to reach litter. The boats and paddleboards were kindly donated once again by Slimbridge Adventure Bike Hire and All in Adventure. Ensuring no litter was left untouched, we collected a total of 10.55 kilos of litter from this stretch of the canal.
Along this beautiful canal clean we found a range of litter, some of the more notable items included:
- Tennis balls
- A boat GPS
- Pillowcase
- Hair dye bottle
- A large supplement tub
- A bag of dog treats
As well as finding lots of polystyrene, plastic bags, bottles, drinks cans, plastic containers, bottle caps and more!
So far this year Life’s a Beach has collected 149 bags of litter, weighing in at 459.35 kilos from UK beaches, streets, forests, and waterways. This clean was a big milestone for ProCook volunteers, as this event marked over 100kg of litter collected by staff this year alone.
A big thank you to all the ProCook staff who volunteered their time to join us on this clean. As well as Slimbridge Adventure Bikes and All in adventure who so kindly donated the use of the canoes and paddleboards for the day.
We can’t wait for the two more cleans that we have booked with our charity partner ProCook this year and are looking forward to coming back to the Gloucester Sharpness Canal next year!
