Making a Difference at New Close Primary School!

We had a great day at New Close School in Wiltshire, working with pupils to explore the impact of litter and how we can all do our bit to protect the environment.

The day started with an interactive workshop where children learned how long different types of litter take to decompose. There were plenty of thoughtful guesses and some surprised reactions—especially when we revealed just how long materials like plastic bottles, wet wipes, and aluminium can stick around!

In the afternoon, we took the learning outside for a litter pick on the school field. Armed with grabbers and gloves, the students did a brilliant job collecting rubbish and taking pride in making their school grounds cleaner. One of the standout finds? A crisp packet from 2004, a real eye-opener that showed just how long litter can last in the environment.

Together the students filled 6 bags of litter, collecting up a total of 9.88 kilos in total. An amazing achievement! A big thank you to everyone at New Close for making us feel so welcome and for getting stuck in with such energy. We hope the workshop has sparked some long-term eco-awareness.
