Our 2025 Road Trip: 5 Cities in 5 Days

We teamed up with volunteers from DXC, NHS England, NHS BSA, and the Department of Health and Social Care to clean up the UK and raise money for the Tony Hudgell Foundation.

This foundation was created by Tony Hudgell, a courageous young double amputee who overcame life-changing injuries caused by abuse, the foundation champions child protection and support. It provides vital assistance to children who have experienced abuse, neglect, or serious injuries—funding medical treatment, rehabilitation, and specialist equipment to help them lead fuller, healthier lives.

The plan. Five cleans, five locations, five days. We started in Newcastle, moving to Leeds. From there we went to Manchester, and then Nottingham. We then ended our week in Central London.

75 members of staff donated 225 volunteers resulting in 198 bags of litter collected. That’s not to mention all of the items that didn’t fit into bags. Items such as:

  • Desk chairs
  • A swimming pool
  • Gas cannisters
  • A giant toy lion
  • Building materials
  • Bikes and bike frames
  • Garden furniture
  • Cans of paint

In total 813.93 kilos of litter were collected. A truly impressive feat.

Most notably, we’d like to mention the amazing volunteers in Leeds and Manchester. In Leeds we filled buckets of used needles and collected up several knives. As we were opposite a secondary school, we were keen to remove these dangerous objects from an area where children and teenagers are. In Manchester we completed are largest clean ever, with the volunteers there picking up the most litter we’ve ever collected on a single clean, and in less than two hours!

On a personal note, traveling over a thousand miles seemed like a daunting task at the start of the week, but the unwavering enthusiasm and support from everyone we met along the way made it an amazing adventure. At every location the volunteers were raring to go and attacked the cleans with a determination and positivity that was totally infectious.

We want to say a huge thank you to the people who volunteered from DXC, NHS England, NHS BSA, and the Department of Health and Social Care, for working with us on yet another annual road trip.
