We have worked with the Marine Watch, EcoSoc, and Gem societies from both Falmouth and Exeter University on six previous cleans. So when they reached out again with a beach they knew needed cleaning, we were more than happy to help!
We returned to Swanpool Beach, a beautiful little stretch of coastline we had visited back in June. Despite the early start, 12 students turned up to clean up of of their local beaches.
The tide the night before had been very high, washing up large amounts of seaweed. Tangled in amongst all this organic material was lots of hidden litter.
From shoes to abandoned fishing gear, our volunteers worked hard to sift through the seaweed to find pollution. Over three hours we scoured the sands and stones in search of dropped and washed up litter. Together we collected up 8.85 kilos in 12 bags.
We want to say a massive thank you to this dedicated group of 60 students who have volunteered with us just in 2024 alone. We can’t wait to see what next year brings!
